Drafted by both the Detroit Red Wings (186th overall in 1983) and Calgary Flames (143rd overall in 1985) respectively after playing with the WHL's Regina Pats as well as the University of Manitoba, Stu Crimson, better known by his nickname "The Grim Reaper", would play a total of 729 games during his NHL career with a total of eight (8) different National Hockey League teams between 1988 and 2002. A feared enforcer who racked up a 2113 penalty minutes throughout his time in the league, offered here is this Hartford Whalers jersey worn by Grimson during his lone year with the club in 1996-97, their final season in Hartford as the Whalers before relocating to Carolina and becoming the Hurricanes. Made by Starter, a size label reading "56-G" with Grimson's number "32" penned to it in now washed out black marker ink is found affixed to the inner collar along with additional "Center Ice Authentic Collection" and Starter/NHL tags as well. Having had both the Starter and NHL shield logos embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Whalers team crest that has been administered in a stacked tackle twill style. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Grimson's number "32" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals, "Crimson" has been spelt out in single layer navy coloured tackle twill letters that have been sewn on over the affixed matching nameplate that is in place at the top of the reverse. Exhibiting excellent game-wear throughout the entirety of the piece, including stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, team repairs are observed over the front and both sleeves as well. Showing additional battle scars in the form of board burns, coloured board paint transfers, and un-repaired cuts/holes over both sleeves as well as popped seams caused by fights at the bottom of the collar, fabric snags and pills throughout and some minor spot staining, heavy pilling as well as a customized shortened/reinforced fight strap are seen on the interior of the jersey, which is void of the usually seen Custom Crafted team stamp inside the hem, it should be noted that the nameplate is has turned a yellow hue from the adhesive used to hold it down prior to stitching. Coming from the collection of a former Whalers employee, the jersey appears to show a match to a screenshot taken from video of Grimson's March 12th, 1997 fight against Dean Malkoc of the Boston Bruins that seems to show the mark/stain that is seen behind the left shoulder above the sleeve numbers but is not clear enough to call a conclusive video-match.
