Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

Raising the art form of penalty killing to an exact science, Derek Sanderson was one of the NHL’s all-time premier practitioners of playing with a man short, with his prodigious face-off abilities and zealous checking forever frustrating the opposition. A veteran of 598 National Hockey League games and a two-time Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins, offered here is this stick used by Sanderson as a member of the Bruins during the era of the early-1970s. A Victoriaville Pro model offering with Sanderson's "16" and "D. Sanderson" stamped over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original white tape job over both the handle/knob and blade. Dating between 1971 and 1974 based on the team coloured accent sticker that still remains wrapped around the shaft (the other over the lower portion has been lost to time), the stick, showing a bit of discolouration over the length of the shaft, shows excellent game-use throughout its entirety including numerous dark stick and puck marks as well as red post paint transfers. Additionally, there is some wear over the bottom of the blade that is worth mentioning for accuracy as well as some missing material near the heel on the backhand side's bottom edge.
