Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A veteran of 979 National Hockey League games with the likes of Boston, St. Louis, Montreal, Pittsburgh, New York and Colorado after playing his junior hockey with the Niagara Falls Flyers of the OHA, Don Awrey would be part of two Stanley Cup winning teams with the Bruins, in 1970 and 1972. Also suiting up for Team Canada in 1972 at the famed Summit Series against the Soviet Union, offered here is this stick used by Awrey as a member of the Bruins in the era of the early-1970s. A Sher-Wood made "Pattern Pro" model twig with "26 Awrey" stamped over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original tape job of white over the handle/knob and black over the blade. Displaying a pair of partially intact foil striping accent stickers around the shaft, the stick displays game-use including numerous marks and abrasions over the length of the shaft, lower shaft, heel and blade including puck marks and red post paint transfers while there is a crack/break in the blade near the toe on the backhand side that is worth mentioning for accuracy as well. Additionally, there is some discolouration of the shaft as well.
