Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/1/2024
After a two-year hiatus, Topps was back producing hockey cards for the 1957-58 season, once again featuring members of the four U.S.-based teams, with important rookie and star cards contributing to the complete 66-card effort presented here. Found to be in an overall high-grade condition state of EX to EX-MT thought it worth mentioning that many of the cards are off-center and #'s 1 and 19 sport creases. Paced by a group of slabbed PSA offerings, including the HOF rookie cards of Glenn Hall (PSA EX-MT 6) and Pierre Pilote (PSA NM 7 - "MC" qualifier), also present are the key HOF examples of Red Wings teammates Terry Sawchuk (PSA EX-MT+ 6.5) and Gordie Howe (PSA EX-MT 6) as well as others such as Al Arbour (PSA NM 7), Norm Ullman (RC - PSA EX 5), Red Kelly (PSA NM 7), Gump Worsley (PSA NM 7), Johnny Bucyk (RC - PSA VG-EX 4) and Leo Boivin (PSA EX-MT 6). For the rest of the set, found in their original raw ungraded form, key cards include an EX-MT to NM copy of card #51 that pictures Harry Howell over the front as well as an EX-MT range copy of 15-Stanley (print circles on the front) and an EX to EX-MT specimen of 64-Fontinato RC (factory blue print mark at the right side). Additionally, also include are VG-EX to EX examples of 60-Bathgate (top border dinged) and 66-Creighton (tiny crease at top border) and a G to VG copy of 34-Delvecchio (off-center - small pen mark over right border). Overall, a highly desirable assembly featuring some of the best players to ever play in the golden era of the National Hockey League.
