A veteran of 219 National Hockey League games over the course of ten (10) seasons, Jamie Storr's professional journey started after being selected 7th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 1994. A product of the Owen Sound Platers in the Ontario Hockey League and a back-to-back gold medalist at the 1994 and 1995 IIHF World Junior Championships, offered here is this photo-matched goalie mask worn by Storr during his rookie season with both the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and in junior as a member of the Ontario Hockey League's Owen Sound Platters. Attractively designed in Kings colours of white, silver and black with all padding and strapping intact on both the interior and exterior, the paint job on the exterior, features a gorgeous Egyptian Pharaoh/King Tutankhamun design over the forehead and top of the piece while matching geometric patterns extend from behind the ears down towards the chin area where an anhk symbol, the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol used to represent the word for "life" has also been painted. Sporting the original white coloured cage over the front of the piece with the hardware still present and accounted for, the backplate of the mask is painted black with a white outline around the entirety of the edge and shows “Storzie” along the bottom in painted white letters. A custom headpiece made by Ed Cubberly, the makers sticker remains affixed to the interior of the mask along with an additional one warning of the dangers that come with playing hockey. Void of a sweatband on the interior at the forehead, the mask, showing Cubberly’s trademark C-shaped ear slots, shows good game-use throughout including a number of chips, marks and abrasions that are all present throughout the piec,e with examples over the top, chin, forehead, headpiece and along edges. Additionally, the screws that secure the cage to the shell have rusted from repeated use and age and is worth noting for accuracy.
Regarding photo-matches, the mask is matched with Storr's 1994-95 Leaf Phenoms card (#1) along with his 1994-95 OPC Premier card (#437) that have both been matched to the diagonal chip below the nose of the Pharaoh while Getty Image #53133263 (Undated - 1994-95 OHL Season), showing Storr wearing the mask during the year with Owen Sound, is matched to the puck mark over the Pharaoh's nose as well as the previously mentioned diagonal chip below the nose of the Pharaoh as well.
