Known as a steady and dependable blueliner during his career, Aut Erickson would play a total of 226 games in the National Hockey League between 1955 and 1970, suiting up for the likes of the Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Oakland Seals in the NHL as well as various AHL and WHL teams as well. Playing his lone game in a Maple Leafs uniform during Game 1 of the 1967 Stanley Cup Finals against the Montreal Canadiens, Erickson and the Leafs would go on to beat the Habs 4 games to 2 to clinch the 13th Stanley Cup in Toronto's franchise history. An original member of the expansion Oakland Seals, offered here is this wristwatch gifted to Erickson by the City of Toronto during the team's parade on May 5th, 1967. A Birks made Eterna-Matic model offering that features its original black leather band, the modest and simple faced watch is engraved on the back with "Presented by the City of Toronto to Aut Erickson, Maple Leaf Hockey Team, The Stanley Cup World Hockey Champions, City Hall, May 5, 1967" while the facsimile signature of then Toronto mayor, William Dennison, is seen on the back as well underneath the notation. Not running but with the hands still able to be rotated with the crown pulled out, the watch shows some light scratches and scuffs over the front crystal and light scratches over the reverse while the band had hardened with age and shows wear where it was usually fastened.
