Drafted 55th overall by the New York Islanders in 1985, Steve Finley played 708 games in the NHL over the course of a 15-year career. Settling in the desert with the rest of the Winnipeg Jets franchise as the newly minted Phoenix Coyotes for the 1996-97 season, offered here is this stick used by Finley during that campaign signed by that first-year club. A Victoriaville APT model with “J. Finley” stamped to the upper shaft, the stick presents with Jeff’s original white wrapping over the handle and knob with a hand written “26” in black ink at the bottom. Showing light game-use through a handful of marks/abrasions over the shaft, heel and blade, a chip is observed at the upper shaft edge near the handle tape. Having had the blade tape removed to facilitate “Phoenix Coyotes 1996-97” that has been scrawled over it in blue ink, approx. 21 members of the team have signed the stick including; Stapleton, Drake, Lemieux, Doan, Roenick, Gartner, Numminen, Shannon, King, Tkachuk and others. All signed in blue ink, the autographs display bold and strong with just those of Gartner and Stapleton showing some smudging. Additionally, also accompanying the stick from that first Desert Dogs season are a media guide, ticket stub from their 4th regular season home game, sticker, season ticket application, beer glass and hat that all remain in good condition with just light handling wear observed.
