Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A Quebec city with a long hockey history to its name, the City of Sherbrooke has been home to many hockey teams throughout the years at many levels of play, including in the 1940s and 1950s with the Sherbrooke St. Francis of the Quebec Provincial Hockey League (QPHL) and Quebec Senior Hockey League (QSHL) as well as the Sherbrooke Saints, also of the previously mentioned QSHL. Seeing prominent players such as Herb Carnegie, Tony Demers and Ossie Carnegie, the Saints would win the QSHL for the 1949-50 season. Offered here, we have this collection five (5) programs from various St. Francis and Saints QPHL and QSHL games dating from 1946-47 to 1950-51. A curiosity inspiring lot that sees all the examples in less than ideal condition with varying degrees of handling wear and flaws seen throughout including through things such as rough edges and worn, tape, handwritten pen and pencil notations on the inside, small tears and rips to the covers and pages and staining, the group is led by an exhibition game example from February 9th, 1950 that pitted the NHL's Montreal Canadiens against the Saints, with the lineup including HOFers such as M. Richard, Harvey, Lach, Reardon, Bouchard and Durnan. Also including St. Francis QPHL programs form 1946-47 and 1947-48, both of which include Carnegie and Demers in the lineup, 1948-49 and 1950-51 St. Francis/Saints programs are present as well, with the older of the two listing Carnegie and Demers in the lineup for Sherbrooke as well as Allen Stanley for the New York Rovers. Rounded out with November 30th, 1986 Sherbrooke Canadiens AHL program that remains in good or better condition as well as a vintage 5" x 7" photo of Claude Ruel that is stamped "Studio C. Marcil - 73 Drouin - Ottawa, Ont." on the reverse, the photos shows with numerous scratches and creases that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
