Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
The first National Hockey League season after a lockout that cancelled the year previous, the 2005-06 season was already special and was even more so due to the fact that it featured a rookie class that included the two most hyped up players since the likes of Gretzky and Lemieux going head-to-head in the form of Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin. With both players having gone on to careers that'll surely land both in the Hockey Hall of Fame at the first opportunity, offered here is this pair of 2005-06 Upper Deck "Rookie Threads" jersey cards from the company's "Series 2" flagship release that feature each player individually. Both displaying draft day images of each respective player over the front of their offerings, a swatch of black coloured material taken from a jersey worn by them during a photoshoot has been embedded into the front of each card. Both having been inspected and graded by PSA, the Ovechkin example has been deemed worthy of a NM-MT 8 designation for its effort while the Crosby comes in just a touch higher, earning a MINT 9 after its assessment. Both housed in PSA holders that remain in excellent condition and show just light evidence of wear/handling via a few small/light scratches and scuffs to make mention of for accuracy.
