Extremely dominant during the first years of the 20th century while earning the “Silver Seven” moniker, the Ottawa Senators defeated numerous challengers as holders of the Stanley Cup throughout 1903, 1904 and 1905. A number of legendary team perished at the hands of the powerful Senators, including the Montreal Wanderers, Toronto Marlboros and Winnipeg Rowing Club. This rare real photo postcard pictures the Stanley Cup-champion Senators in 1905. Depicted in their famous striped sweaters, the Silver Seven members are posed with Lord Stanley’s hardware, including legendary superstars Frank McGee, Rat Westwick, Harry Pulford and Alf Smith. The postal reverse is clean, with the players names handwritten beneath the team photo, which covers three quarters of the front of the postcard. Sporting a few small creases, just toning and light corner wear are the minor defects to note.
