Setting up shop in the North American Soccer League beginning with the 1971 season of play as the Toronto Metros before eventually changing their name to the Toronto Blizzard in 1979, the franchise would win "Soccer Bowl '76" over the Minnesota Kicks for their only championship in league history while also making an appearance in the 1983 and 1984 editions of the game as well. Featuring a long list of notable alumni, including Eusébio, Ivica Grnja, Ivan Lukacevic and Ivair Ferreira, offered here is this Toronto Blizzard player issued jacket that dates to 1982. A nylon construction offering made by "Apollo Brand Sportswear" of Toronto that mimics the Starter made satin dugout jackets seen during the era in Major League Baseball, a label from the brand is sewn inside the front left tail while a size tag displaying a "42" designation is affixed to the inner collar. Featuring knitted red, white and blue accents around the collar, hemline and both cuffs with white coloured snap buttons down the centre on the front, a Blizzard team crest that features embroidered details throughout and sports an "'82" year designation has been added over the left breast while a "Molson Soccer" sponsorship patch has been placed over the right side in similar style. Remaining in overall good condition despite spot staining that is seen throughout, the painted buttons show only very light wear/chipping and there is no tears or holes to make note of. A cool piece from a notable defunct league, don't miss out on this one.
