This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Established as the Detroit Cougars in 1926 before rebranding as the Falcons for a couple of seasons, "Hockeytown" finally settled on the "Red Wings" as their team name beginning with the 1932-33 season, with the club going on to enjoy a rich history up to this point that has included eleven (11) Stanley Cup championships and over sixty (60+) players who that have donned their famed red and white colours that have then gone on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Offered here, we present this collection of Red Wings memorabilia. Including a brick that comes from Detroit's "Old Red Barn", the Olympia, the desirable red brick measures roughly 3 1/2" x 8" and part of a display that includes a shelf for it to sit on, the wooden plaque piece also features a photo/postcard of the old rink as well as full ticket from a Montreal vs Detroit old-timers game that took place on February 27th, 1976. Also including a pair of multi-signed 8" x 10" photographs, the first is a copy of the famous Howe and Gretzky image taken by Annie Leibovitz which has been signed by both legends alongside their images with either silver (Howe) or black (Gretzky) marker ink signatures that display well despite their age. For the second image, a photo of the famed "Production Line" that brought Detroit Stanley Cup glory in the early-1950s, each player, Howe, Abel and Lindsay, has signed underneath their image with thin black marker ink signatures that display well despite fading from age and have added personalizations/inscriptions above them as well. Both photos remain in good condition with light wear from handling to the corners and edges that is worth mentioning for accuracy as well as some light surface wear. Finally, concluding the lot is an 18" x 24" poster of Terry Sawchuk that is of original artwork done by Ed Lapere. Featured posed and action images of Sawchuk as well as additional images of his retired number banner and the Detroit Olympia, the piece is a limited-edition lithograph poster that is numbered "203/550" in silver ink at the bottom right hand corner with Lapere's signature in matching ink above. Ready for framing and display, the piece remains in good condition with light wear to the edges and corners that is worthy of mention for accuracy but is found free of any rips or tears. An excellent grouping of desirable Motown hockey collectables, don't miss out on these for your all-important Detroit collection.
