Backstopping the first American club ever to be crowned Allan Cup champions, Seth Martin was a regular with Team Canada throughout the 1960s, appearing in four IIHF World Championships and the 1961 Winter Olympics where he won gold with the Trail Smoke Eaters. Martin would also win bronze medals in 1966 and 1967, and was named the Top Goaltender in four different major international tournaments, including the 1964 Winter Olympics. Martin would see just a single season of action in the NHL, teaming with Glenn Hall to help lead the expansion St Louis Blues to the 1968 Stanley Cup final. Also known as a noted mask maker during his life, constructing face coverings for National Hockey League netminders such as Glenn Hall as well as numerous junior goalies and tenders in Europe and Russia, offered here is this mask made by the 1997 IIHF Hall of Fame inductee. A fiberglass construction offering sort of in a flat pretzel style, the vintage and desirable face covering is painted in a flesh tone though multiple different coloured skin tone painted layers are seen via chipping to the paint on the exterior. Measuring roughly 8 3/4" from the top of the head to the chin and approximately 6 1/2" from ear-to-ear, the mask features its original strapping harness on the reverse while the interior of the mask sports zero padding. Void of any identifiers with numerous marks, abrasions, small chips and light shallow cracks throughout, the strapping harness is also void of any identifiers and shows with discolouration and soiling plus a small hole in the strap over the bottom of the right cheek and rusting around the metal aspects. Additionally, the leather areas of the harness are dry and could benefit from a good conditioning.
