Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

Beginning play in the old Western Hockey League for the 1968-69 season, the Denver Spurs would become a Denver, Colorado mainstay for a total of eight (8) seasons of play in leagues such as the WHL, CHL and WHA. Becoming the first Colorado based sports team to win a championship in 1971–72, the team played their final season as a part of the rival World Hockey Association and only lasted 34 games before an abrupt move to Ottawa and 7 more games as the Civics before folding for good after 41 games played. Offered here, we present this Denver Spurs jersey first worn by Dave Roberts during the 1974-75 CHL season that was then recycled for use in the first part of the 1975-76 WHA season by Bob Liddington. A Rawlings made durene knit garment that features Rawlings labeling that displays a size "46" designation sewn inside the reverse hem, additional tags for washing instructions and Giesler-Jorgen are also present and accounted for. Decorated over the front of the bright orange, black and white garment with a Denver Spurs team crest that features beautifully chain-stitched embroidery details throughout, the sleeves and verso of the jersey have had Roberts'/Liddington's number "7" sewn on in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals while the "Roberts" nameplate that would have once graced the upper back has long been lost to time. Sporting the remains of a garter style fight strap on the interior, the jersey exhibits heavy game-wear throughout its entirety via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, board burns/scrapes over the body and both sleeves, a small hole over the right forearm, coloured board paint transfer marks over the hem on both sides and a couple of small holes on the reverse, the brunt of the wear is observed via various sized team repairs, including a large black coloured patch job over the lower reverse, that total out to approximately twenty-five (25) by count with most over the upper reverse due to the fixing of holes caused by removal of the "Roberts" nameplate. Also showcasing some small spot stains throughout, good pilling is found throughout the interior as well.
