Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
The third hockey card set ever released by Canadian company Parkhurst, the 1953-54 release saw the size increase as well as better quality images over the front and more informative bios and stat lines over the reverses. Offered here, is this starter set of the hobby favourite 1953-54 set that includes forty-nine (49) of the one hundred (100) cards making up the checklist. Found to be in the overall low-grade scope throughout its entirety, the contingent is led by the key cards of Montreal Canadiens teammates Gerry McNeil and Doug Harvey both in the condition range of FR to G with the McNeil sporting rounded corners and a crease at the top left while the Harvey shows with a crease and rounded corners to make you aware of. For the rest of the notables, all found in the grade neighbourhood of POOR due to rounded corners and multiple creases throughout, the section containing these cards is led by the rookie card of Gump Worsley as well as 40-Kelly, 47-Delvecchio, 50-Howe, 56-Bathgate and 92-Schmidt. Also including a group of twenty-one (21) extras, headlining those are three (3) additional offerings of "Mr. Hockey" with one in the vicinity of POOR due to being torn and showing paper loss, rounded corners, ink spots and creases while the other two (2) would likely classify as "AUTHENTIC", along with a pair of extra Andy Bathgate cards and an additional Milt Schmidt card, all of which show the same flaws listed as the Howe's above. Overall, the grouping is likely to be a budget friendly option for anyone looking to add some Original Six magic to their collections.
