Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

His final season in pinstripes, the mighty Babe Ruth concluded his time with the New York Yankees at the close of the 1934 MLB season, finishing with a .288 average along with 22 home runs - hardly "Ruthian" by his standards. Selected to the AL All-Star team for the second consecutive year, the Bambino would be struck out by a somewhat youthful Carl Hubbell in the contest - with four other future Hall-of-Famers sharing the same fate. This highly desirable photo from the 1934 season features Ruth along with Yankees teammates Lefty Gomez and Red Ruffing, and it has been deemed an authentic Type 1 specimen by PSA. At approx 7" x 8 1/2", Ruth is pictured dead center. The reverse sports an International News Photo Stamp along with a pencil crayon notation, an affixed typed caption, and the stamped date of "Aug 20 1934". There are a few surface wrinkles through the photo along with some toning. Any and all Type 1 photos of The Sultan are in high demand, and this is a very pleasing example.
We should also note a few scratches to the PSA holder.
