Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Terrific pre-war collectibles here came with "The Triumph", a boy's magazine published in Great Britain, with three postcards reportedly included, along with a paper folder to store the cards, with the January 18, 1936 issue and then one card per issue for the following seven weeks. Found here in complete set form with all ten (10) cards present and accounted for, the group pictures some of the best players of the era including HOFers Eddie Shore, Roy Worters, Lionel Conacher, Busher Jackson, Ching Johnson, Sylvio Mantha and Herbie Lewis. In terms of conditions, the group is led by a EX to EX-MT examples of Conacher (factory print marks near the top), Mantha (slight corner wear at the top) and Baldy Northcott (slight corner wear) while the card of Roy Worters is closer to EX and shows a small smudge on the reverse as well as a tiny top right corner ding. Also including a VG-EX to EX example of Eddie Shore (small raised wrinkle at the left border on the reverse) and VG to VG-EX offerings of Ching Johnson (top left corner wear) and Nick Metz (small bend in the middle - only can be felt not seen), the group is rounded out by GOOD neighbourhood copies of Busher Jackson (crease at bottom left) and Herbie Lewis (light but long crease from his glove to his head) as well as an "AUTHENTIC" vicinity example of the card picturing Paul Thompson that appears to have been trimmed since it is of a smaller size than the others that are included in the set.
