Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

Born in Shanghai, China, Yao Ming would first suit up for a professional basketball game with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association, a club he first started playing with as a teenager and became a mainstay for between 1997 and 2002. Becoming the first (1st) overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, Ming would play his entire National Basketball Association career in "H-Town", earning eight (8) All-Star Game selections and having his number "11" retired by the club after his retirement in 2011. Having led his native China to a trio of FIBA Asia Cups and inducted to both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the FIBA Hall of Fame, offered here is this copy of Ming's 2003-04 Topps Pristine "Gold Refractor" rookie card. Displaying an image of Ming over the front going up to the basket with the ball firmly in his right hand, front of the card is also decorated with gold accents while the write up on the back talks about Ming's successful rookie campaign the year prior. Serial numbered "10/99" near the top left-hand corner on the reverse in gold foil, the card has recently returned from grading at PSA where it had the company's high-grade mark of NM-MT 8 bestowed upon it. With the PSA POP Report showing that only three (3) such copies of this card have ever been graded by the company in their history, this example is a highest graded POP-2 specimen. Housed in a flawless PSA holder, don't miss out on this one for your all-important collection!
