A product of the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in the NCAA, Glenn "Chico” Resch would suit up in the National Hockey League for a total of 571 games over the course of his fourteen (14) year NHL career, with eight (8) of those years spent guarding the crease for the New York Islanders. A Stanley Cup champion in 1980 and the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy winner in 1982 who also played in a trio of NHL All-Star Games, offered here is this Islanders jersey worn by Resch during the 1980-81 season, his last on Long Island in the blue and orange of New York. A heavyweight mesh construction offering made by Sandow SK, a brand label displaying a handwritten size "50G" designation is affixed to the inner collar overtop of a washing instructions tag while "Sandow SK" has been screened over the reverse hem as well. Decorated over the front of the garment with a familiar Islanders crest that has been administered in layered tackle twill style, the sleeves and verso of the jersey have been accented with Resch's number "1" in dual layer blue-over-orange tackle twill numerals. Having had "Resch" spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching mesh nameplate that is present at the top of the reverse, the jersey shows excellent game-wear throughout its entirety via puck marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves paint transfers exists at the left cuff and under the nameplate while a board burn is present over the reverse hem. Additionally, a custom fight strap is sewn into the interior of the jersey, with the inside also showing additional evidence of marks that have largely been washed out on the exterior and some pilling/fraying from numerous wears and washes. Regarding the photo-match, the jersey is matched to a press photo of Resch taken during New York's game on October 25th, 1980 against the Philadelphia Flyers to the placement of the sewn-on orange twill “Islanders” lettering at the bottom of the team crest on the front, to the very closed bottom of the first “S” in "Islanders" and to the distinct fold/crease in the crest that is seen around the "2 o'clock" area as well. Additionally, the jersey is matched to an undated second image of Resch taken during the season shows a match to the small fold/crease as well as to the puck mark just above it. Originally from the personal collection of Islanders teammate, Billy Smith, the jersey comes accompanied by a third party LOA.
