Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Both abridgements of the Topps counterpart that was released south of the border, the 1982 and 1983 O-Pee-Chee baseball cards releases both featured a total of 396-cards in each set with the checklists skewed heavily towards the league's two (2) Canadian teams of the Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Expos. Including notable rookie cards of George Bell, Tim Wallach, Tony Gwynn and Ryne Sandberg as well as numerous other Hall of Famers and other stars, offered here is this lot consisting of complete sets of O-Pee-Chee's 1982 and 1983 baseball releases. Starting with the earlier of the two (2) sets, found to be in an overall high-grade condition state of EX-MT to NM throughout its entirety except for card #65 which has a large crease that is worth making mention of, the key cards include EX-MT to NM offerings of 18-Bench, 19-Raines, 90-Ryan, 100-Schmidt, 187-Carew, 200-Brett (70-30 centering), 237-Yount (70-30 centering), 244-Carter, 268-Henderson, 300-Jackson (70-30 centering), 361-Rose and 379-Dawson (70-30 centering). With all the checklist cards found in their original unmarked state and other star cards within the set in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set, it is worth mentioning that #394 is around EX due to corner wear. For the 1983 set, the story is largely the same as the 1982 release that it is paired with as the 396-card contingent is seen as being in the overall grade scope of EX-MT to NM for its effort with the checklist cards also all unmarked. Including EX-MT to NM examples of key offerings such as 83-Sandberg RC, 100-Rose, 143-Gwynn (microscopic bottom right corner wear touch), 163-Ripken (1st OPC card), 180-Henderson, 360-Ryan and 361-Ryan SV, the group also includes EX-MT cards of 3-Brett (off-center top-to-bottom and slight wear to right border) and 303-Dawson (small ding to bottom right). With the other stars not listed in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set, don't miss out on these classic Canadian baseball assemblies for your all-important collection!
