Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Featuring a checklist that consisted of 264 total cards and a separate production from the Topps set found south of the border, the 1977 O-Pee-Chee baseball set is found heavily loaded with a number of players from the native Expos & Blue Jays, making their 1977 OPC team sets superior to the ones issued by their American cousin. Printed later than the Topps cards, giving OPC the opportunity to update the teams and airbrush the hats of the free agents and traded players offered here is this complete assembly of O-Pee-Chee's 1977 baseball release. Lacking any real key rookie cards but chalked full of star power and numerous future Baseball Hall of Fame inductees, the contingent is found to be in the overall condition ranges of EX and EX-MT for their efforts with some VG to VG-EX examples strung throughout as well while generally showing light corner wear and/or light corner dings. For the key cards, condition leaders include EX to EX-MT offerings of 37-Yazstrzemski (light corner wear and surface snow), 45-Carter (completely off-center from top-to-bottom), 65-Ryan (both right side corners have light wear), 170-Brett (top left corner ding), 200-Jackson (slight corner wear), 205-Seaver (light ink bleed at the bottom border), 240-Rose (light corner wear), 245-Schmidt (70-30 centering and light corner wear) and 264-Ryan (90-10 centering) while rounding out the group are VG-EX to EX examples of 100-Bench (top right corner ding), 143-Carew (bottom corners worn) and 156-Winfield (stain to right border and corner wear). With the set's two (2) checklist cards both remaining in an unmarked state and the other stars found throughout in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set, on't miss out on this premium baseball offering for your all-important collection!
