Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Playing their first game in franchise history on November 17, 1926, against the Toronto St. Patricks at the Chicago Coliseum, the Chicago Black Hawks have gone on to nearly a 100-year history that has included a total of six (6) Stanley Cup championships and had some of the best to ever play in the National Hockey League pull their sweater on over their heads. Offered here, we present this late-1950s Chicago Black Hawks press photo set that includes twenty (20) images. All high-quality black-and-white images on photo paper, each measures out to dimension of approximately 10" x 8" and has had the name of the player featured on the front written over the lower reverse in either pencil or pen. Including the likes of Hall of Famers such as Bobby Hull (pictured still wearing number "16"), Glenn Hall (number above tomahawk patches on sleeve), and Stan Mikita, other player images present in the collection include; Dollard St. Laurent, Jack Evans, Al Arbour, Elmer Vasko, Pierre Pilote, Reg Flemming, Ab McDonald, Eric Nesterenko, Ed Litzenberger, Earl Balfour, Ken Wharram, Tod Sloan, Ron Murphy, Bill Hay, Murray Balfour, Rudy Pilous (coach) and Tommy Ivan (GM). All remaining in good condition, some of the images show things such as toning, edge/corner wear, corner creases, surface indents, very slight edge tears and scratches to the images over the front while the entirety of the group has a humidity bend that is worth noting for accuracy. Hailing from the news room of WHDH in Boston, Massachusetts, the original envelope from the station that displays their logo at the top left hand corner is included, albeit tattered throughout (heaviest near the opening) and having had "Hockey Pics" written over the front.
