An intimate 50-card set picturing only players and staff of the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, the 1959-60 Parkhurst set was released for the last season of Montreal’s still unmatched run of five-straight Stanley Cups. Featuring slabs from a variety of companies including PSA (x30), CSG (x14), SGC (x4) and KSA (x2) with most of the cards having earned marks of EX or better for their efforts, the set is spearheaded by a group that includes Maurice Richard (KSA ENM 6), Henri Richard (PSA EX-MT 6), Doug Harvey (PSA NM-MT 8), Jacques Plante (CSG VG/EX+ 4.5), Johnny Bower (CSG EX 5), Jean Beliveau (PSA EX-MT 6), Dickie Moore (PSA NM-MT 8), Frank Mahovlich (PSA EX 5), King Clancy (PSA EX 5), Allan Stanley (CSG EX/NM 6) and Bernie Geoffrion (SGC NM+ 7.5). For the rest of the set, cards displaying marks of NM-MT 8 include those of 13-Wilson (PSA), 15-Imlach RC (PSA), 31-Hicke RC (PSA), 37-Marshall (SGC), 46-Officials Intervene (PSA) and 48-Edmundson RC (SGC), NM 7's are all found in PSA holders that house the cards of 9-Harris, 11-Reaume, 19-Ehman RC, 21-Baun, 22-Reardon 43-Turner and 47-Selke. Including a lone CSG EX/NM+ 6.5 of #18 Claude Provost, PSA EX-MT 6's are found for 10-Johnson, 12-Bonin, 30-Action Around The Net, 34-Hampson and 45-Langlois while CSG slabs feature 25-Bower In Action and 40-Olmstead and the lone KSA ENM 6 features the card of #1 Canadiens On Guard. With the back half of the set including EX+ 5.5's of 3-Brewer (CSG), 4-Goyette (CSG) and 7-Armstrong, the quartet of EX 5's include the likes of 16-Hodge (PSA), 26-Stewart (PSA), 38-Duff (PSA) and 42-Price (CSG). With VG-EX+ 4.5's represented by the likes of 17-Regan (CSG), 27-Blake (PSA) and 49-Talbot (CSG), the duo of VG-EX 4's include 29-Backstrom (CSG) and 35-Pronovost (PSA). Finishing off the set, VG 3's shed light on the cards of 5-Chadwick (CSG), 20-McDonald (PSA) and 36-Smythe (PSA) while the final two (2) cards are found in the form of 23-Horton and 28-Pulford, both of which are housed in CSG holders.
With all the holders in generally good condition except for some light scratches and scuffs that are worth pointing out for accuracy, It must be noted that the grading standards followed by CSG and KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
