77 cards larger than the set from the previous season, the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee release rang in at 341 total cards, the biggest set released by the Canadian manufacturer up to that point and came at an important time in hockey history as the WHA entered the professional climate with its first season of play that same year. On the auction block here is this near complete set of 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee with the grouping here largely remaining in the EX to EX-MT vicinity. Including 331 of the 341 cards that make up the complete checklist and missing only #'s 7, 20, 30, 36, 38, 54 and 63 (all 1971-72 playoffs cards) plus 190-checklist, 196 and 228-B. Hull AS for completion, it is also worth noting that there are fourteen (14) cards with a small crease including #'s 87, 90, 98, 117, 155, 159, 160, 164, 174, 199, 221, 275, 287 and 292, six (6) cards with multiple small or large creases including #'s 5, 135, 169, 201, 234 and 300, and finally twenty-four (24) cards have a wax stain/residue on their fronts. For the key cards, those found to be in the top end condition neighbourhood of are the examples of 8-Dionne (2nd card - slight left border ding), 14-Clarke (small factory print mark), 58-Orr IA (factory print line), 59-Lafleur (2nd card), 92-Plante, 111-P. Esposito, 129-Orr, 137-T. Esposito, 145-Dryden (2nd card - factory print lines), 188-Sittler, 227-Park/Orr AS, 334-Checklist (unmarked - 60-40 centering), 336-Hull and 340-Cheevers (very slight diamond cut). Rounded out by the notable cards of 6-Checklist (EX to EX-MT (unmarked - bottom left corner ding) and 19-Checklist (EX-MT - unmarked - 80-20 centering and slight blue surface snow), the assembly is overall a pleasing set sure to bring back fond memories of yesteryear for our lucky winner bidder.
