Originating as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) and Colorado Rockies (1976-82) before settling via relocation in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the New Jersey Devils have hoisted Lord Stanley's coveted cup a total of three (3) times during their time in "The Garden State", the Devils would achieve their first playoff appearance in 1987-88, becoming one of the final four (4) teams standing that season before falling to the Boston Bruins. Offered here, we present this Devils game-worn jersey that dates from the mid-1980s. A mesh construction offering made by CCM that has had the sleeves and hem shortened by a good amount, a CCM logo patch has been sewn on over the flipped up reverse hem alongside a heat screened Gerry Cosby logo that is present as well. Decorated over the front with a familiar Devils team crest in layered tackle twill, the number "29" appears over the sleeves and verso in dual layer red-over-green tackle twill numerals while no nameplate is present over the upper reverse. Of note, number "29" was worn during the era by Jan Ludvig and photos/examples of his game-worn jerseys that have come to market do show similar shortening at the hem though not at the sleeves. Additionally, no evidence of a previously sewn on nameplate is observed and it is also worth mentioning that the Devils were notorious for recycling jerseys from previous seasons into multiple years of pre-season play in which the jerseys were worn with no nameplates. Utilizing a customized ribbon, skate lace and garter style fight strap on the interior and void of any tagging affixed to the inner collar, the jersey measures out to roughly a size "52". Exhibiting moderate game-wear, some light pilling is present on the interior while the exterior sports stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, small board burns and holes over both sleeves plus the hem line and a fair sized unrepaired cut above the "2" on the right sleeve. Additionally some light staining and overall discolouration of the white mesh is present evenly throughout.
