Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Inducted into the hallowed halls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, offered here, we present this pair of buyback cards signed by Howe for Upper Deck's 2004-05 SP Legendary Signatures release. Originally released as part of Upper Deck's 2001-02 Legends and 2002-03 SPx releases, the first card, an "NHL Legends Fiorentino Collection" insert card of Howe that features a black and white sketch image of the star, has been signed by him over the front with a crisp blue marker ink signature and his famed "Mr. Hockey" moniker that displays without issue. Hand serial numbered "1/1" in matching blue marker ink, the second card, an "SPXcitement" insert offering showing Howe during his days as a member of the Red Wings that is also decorated with refractor accents, Howe has signed over the front along with his "Mr. Hockey" annotation once again, having done so in blue marker ink that displays without issue. Also a hand serial numbered "1/1" specimen, both cards have had UDA holograms affixed to their reverses and are accompanied by matching UDA COA's while each remains in excellent condition with only light corner and edge wear being observed.
