Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Inducted into the hallowed halls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, offered here is this quartet of cards autographed by Howe that hail from Upper Deck's 2001-02 and 2003-04 Premier Collection releases. All displaying with imagery of Howe during his days in the National Hockey League as a member of the Detroit Red Wings in either action or posed images, the pair of examples from the 2001-02 release are from the "Premier Signatures" - Gold set with one of them being the super limited black parallel offering that is serial numbered "3/5" in gold foil near the top left corner. Both signed by Howe with beautiful blue marker ink signatures that display without issue and are further accented by his famed "Mr. Hockey" annotation in matching ink. For the other two cards, both from the 2003-04 Premier Collection release, both are from the "Premier Signatures" subset while one (1) is a "gold" parallel and is hand serial numbered "2/7" in gold ink. Once again both signed by Howe, who added "Mr. Hockey" to both autographs as well, the first is signed in silver marker ink while the "gold" parallel is signed in gold marker ink. Of course, both signatures display beautifully and without issue. All remaining in excellent condition overall, light wear to the edges and corners throughout the group is worth noting for accuracy.
