Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Hailing from Upper Deck's 2002-03 and 2003-04 Rookie Update releases, offered here is this pair of "Rookie Inspirations" dual-signed cards featuring Gordie Howe on both as well as Henrik Zetterberg and Nathan Horton individually. For the first card, released as part of the 2002-03 release, Howe, pictured during his later days as a member of the Detroit Red Wings, is found alongside another Detroit player in Henrik Zetterberg, who was then just a Motown rookie. Both having signed beside their image over a white swatch that has been embedded into the front of the card, both players have signed their signatures in blue marker ink that displays well and without issue with Howe having penned his famed "Mr. Hockey" annotation as well. For the second card included, featuring Howe alongside Nathan Horton, the story is much the same with both players having signed blue marker ink autographs that display without issue with Howe once again adding "Mr. Hockey" to his autograph. Serial numbered "142/199" and "173/199" respectively over their fronts in either silver or gold foil numerals, the sought after cardboard offerings remain in excellent condition with only light touches of wear to the edges and corners being observed that is worth mentioning for accuracy.
