Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Perhaps the two (2) greatest players to ever grace the ice of the National Hockey League, Wayne Gretzky, dubbed "The Great One" shattered most of the records set by "Mr. Hockey", Gordie Howe that were once thought to be unbreakable during his career, first meeting his boyhood hero at 12-years-old and building a friendship with Howe later in life as their careers crossed. Offered here, we present this 1997-98 Upper Deck SP Authentic "Tradition" dual-signed autograph card of the two hockey legends. Picturing Howe as a member of the Detroit Red Wings and Gretzky in his days skating with the New York Rangers, both men have signed over their respective images with their instantly recognizable signatures, with Howe signing in thin silver and Gretzky in thin blue. Both signatures display well and largely without issue despite their age (Howe's shows a bit of "shakiness" and Gretzky's a small amount of fading) and the card has been hand serial numbered "52/158" over the lower portion of the reverse in blue marker ink. The first time we have ever offered such card here at Classic, the desirable cardboard being presented remains in overall excellent condition with just light wear observed to the edges and corners that is worth mentioning for accuracy while the surfaces on both sides remain clean from what we can see. A sought after offering that is sure to enhance your collection should you be the lucky winning bidder.
