Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Joined by another longtime Red Wing who would also lead HockeyTown to Stanley Cup glory, offered here is this pair of autograph cards featuring the two (2) Detroit sporting legends that hail from Upper Deck's 2001-02 and 2002-03 SP Authentic releases. Both "Sign of the Times" dual-autograph offerings. Starting with the earlier of the two (2) cards, hailing from the 2001-02 season in which the Red Wings once again hoisted Lord Stanley's famous Cup, the card shows images of both Howe and Yzerman with each player having signed alongside them with dark blue marker ink signatures that display without issue. Serial numbered "097/150" in silver foil along the right side edge, it is also worth noting that Gordie has added his "Mr. Hockey" annotation underneath his autograph. For the second of the cards included, also a "Sign of the Times" example and pulled from a pack of the company's 2002-03 product, the story is much the same as the first card with both Howe and Yzerman signing beside their images with bold blue ink signatures that display without issue and Howe having added the familiar "Mr. Hockey" moniker. Serial numbered "74/99" in silver foil at the bottom left corner, both cards remain in their raw ungraded from and present in excellent condition with light evidence of corner and edge wear worth mentioning for accuracy.
