The NHL shutout king upon his untimely death in the spring of 1970, Terry Sawchuk remains one of the greatest goaltenders in history, and was the #1 ranked netminder on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players (9th overall). This stick was used by the icon during the early-1960s with the Detroit Red Wings. A Northland Pro model with “Sawchuck” and his preferred lie of “12” stamped to the upper shaft, additional stamps from the Red Wings’ supplier Olympic grace each side of the shaft. The original black-over-white tape on the blade, black tape over the upper paddle and white-over-black on the knob is intact. Moderate game-use is exhibited, with wear to the taped section of blade including a few small tears, puck marks to both sides of the paddle, and additional wear and marks to the shaft including a few small specks of red paint transfer. There also appears to be two small age cracks visible at the toe of the blade, with the stick and blade remaining completely solid. A pair of LOAs will accompany.
