Leaving the confines of the NHL to battle Hitler with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943, Sid Abel is best remembered as a member of Motor City’s famed Production Line with Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. A four-time All-Star throughout his HOF career, Abel also won the Hart Memorial Trophy in 1949, along with a trio of Stanley Cup championships. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1969, offered here is this still used by Abel as a member of the Red Wings. A desirable Northland Pro model that dates to the late-1940s, the vintage lumber displays with "Abel" stamped over the shaft and his number "12" penned in faded black marker ink near the top while it also retains its original black tape job on both the handle/knob and blade. Accented over both sides of the upper shaft with stamps reading "Lippman's Tool Shop" and "Northland Ski Mfg Co.", a pair of mostly intact black accent stripes grace the lower portion of the shaft as well. Displaying with excellent game-use and a true surviving relic of the era, the stick shows numerous dark marks throughout that are heaviest at the lower shaft and heel while the blade tape is tattered in some spots on both sides and the bottom edge. With post paint transfer marks observed over the shaft near the top and bottom of the piece, it is worth noting that some discolouration is present in the areas of the lower shaft and heel and some light wear is found on the bottom side of the heel.
