Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A Motor City landmark for over half a century and featuring a seating capacity upon it’s opening matched by few venues, the hallowed Olympia Stadium presented the city of Detroit with big league hockey, with countless superstars regularly gracing it’s ice surface including timeless legends Gordie Howe and Terry Sawchuk. Standing roughly 33" in height, offered here is this single red colored chair from the "The Old Red Barn". With the original plush leather seat and back cover remaining in excellent condition and free of any rips or tears, the seat is labeled with a worn out but still present white stenciled "4" at the top of the back and on the edge of the plush bottom portion. Displaying with expected wear and tear to the frame and legs, dings and scratches are observed over the reverse side of the seat back and paint loss/rusting is found over the painted wooden arm rests and curved Art Deco metal sides. Having closed its doors in 1979 with the opening of the also since closed and demolished, Joe Louis Arena, this Motown relic will please even the most discerning of collectors. Of note, due to the size and weight of the item, special shipping arrangements may be required.
