Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Offered over 100 years ago by Murad brand cigarettes between 1912 and 1915, up for grabs here is this group of thirteen of the hockey silks that were released by the company. Making up approximately half of a complete set, all of the offered examples display with an average size of roughly 3 1/2" x 5 1/2". Depicting a generic image of a hockey player from the era suited up in the colours of various NCAA institutions, featured here are examples of Annapolis, California, Colorado, Columbia, Harvard, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Purdue, Stanford, Chicago and Yale. Some yellowing, staining, and overall aging is to note on these great silks, with some of them sporting loose threads along their edges as well as some fold lines/creases that are worth pointing out for accuracy as well. All in all, a tremendous gathering of the very desirable Murad small silks. The conditions of these century-old beauties, virtually all have some stains or foxing while the Columbia and Stanford ones have avoided it. Additionally, the Harvard silk displays with even toning throughout but no staining that we can see. Considering the age and rarity involved, these silks have been remarkably preserved.
