Established as the Detroit Cougars in 1926 before rebranding as the Falcons for a couple of seasons, "Hockeytown" finally settled on the "Red Wings" as their team name beginning with the 1932-33 season, with the club going on to enjoy a rich history up to this point that has included eleven (11) Stanley Cup championships and over sixty (60+) players who that have donned their famed red and white colours that have then gone on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Soon to hit their 100th birthday, offered here is this collection of Red Wings and NHL based memorabilia. Highlighted by a 1937 Red Ball Gum Red Wing pennant, originally part of the mail-in premium offer using gum wrappers with Lucky Stick printed on the interior of the wrapper, the small light/faded red felt offering measures roughly 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" for its effort and displays "Red Wings" in yellow letters over the front. Remaining in overall good condition with the graphics all there and light fraying to the tip, a couple of small surface spot stains are also present and worth noting. Also including a desirable 1957-58 Star Weekly crest, originally offered as a premium through the Toronto Star’s Star Weekly Magazine, commencing on November 2, 1957 and continuing for 12 consecutive weeks, the Star issued pictures of players, and adjacent to the player’s page was a coupon, with twelve (12) numbered coupons submitted earning the sender the 8” in diameter NHL Team Logo crest like the one being offered. Preserved in overall very good condition, the crest shows some light creasing and toning, with only some general aging marks to add also along with some staining over both sides, some pin holes at the top above the Red Wings logo and some light surface wear. For the rest of the group, also including various Red Wings and other teams (Rangers, Bruins, Seals) mini pennants, various Red Wings, Rangers and Canadiens team crests, a new-in-package Red Wings pinback button dated 1968, five (5) Red Wings seasons greetings photo envelopes, envelopes from the Toronto Sun "NHL Action Players" images, a sheet telling on how to acquire the Bee Hive logo crests of the mid-to-late-1930s NHL, and accounting sheets describing payments made to players for end of the game star selections including those sent to Rod Gilbert, Guy Lapointe, Ed Giacomin, Alex Delvecchio, Red Berenson, Reed Larson, Michel Bergeron and Pete Mahovlich. Also including a couple of other odds and ends, most of the items are found to be in overall good to excellent condition with the pennants and crests showing majority of the wear through things such as creases and stains.
