Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Inducted into the hallowed halls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, offered here is this trio of cards autographed by Howe that hail from Parkhurst's 1953-54 release as well as Topps' 1957-58 and 1958-59 sets. All having been signed by Howe over the fronts with blue ballpoint pen ink signatures, all the autographs remain easily made out and legible while all three (3) do show some fading from age. With all the signatures having been deemed to be "AUTHENTIC" from the authenticators at PSA, the 1953-54 signed card is one of only five (5) signed examples of this card authenticated by PSA while the 1957-58 card is one of only seven (7) to have been authenticated and lastly, the 1958-59 card is one of only nine (9) to have been authenticated. For the cards themselves, the 1953-54 Parkhurst card is a low-grade example that shows with a crease, moderate-to-heavy toning and corner/edge wear while the 1957-58 example shows an image that is slightly off-center on both the front and reverse as well as some edge and corner wear. Lastly, the card from 1958-59 displays heavily off-center on both sides with the image slightly out of focus and the corners slightly worn. All the PSA holders remain in overall good condition with some light wear via scratches and scuffs worth mentioning for accuracy.
