Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Widely considered one of the greatest hockey games ever played, the 1975 New Year’s Eve tilt in Montreal between the Habs and the Soviet Red Army saw a dominant Canadiens team humbled by an unbelievable goaltending performance from a young 23-year-old Russian named Vladislav Tretiak. This collection includes a program from the game, along with a ticket stub and The Montreal Star's newspaper page titled "Who's who with visiting Russians," which included the names of the Soviet Red Army's team and coaching staff. Measuring approximately 8 ½” x 11”, the 64-page program exhibits some surface wear but has stayed intact all these years later, with the original $2.00 purchase price listed on the front (bottom right). All of the program’s pages are intact, with no tears or spills. The 3” x 4” ticket stub carries a $12.00 purchase price, with full-color Habs and Soviet logos. The 9 ½" x 7 ½" newspaper page has multiple creases and tears throughout, and the print is a little bit faded in some areas. The ticket stub is certified "Authentic" by iCert, and it exhibits a number of fine, long surface creases, which overall do not detract from the eye appeal of this important ticket.
