Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

Starting out in the Negro Leagues, Hank Aaron soon made a name for himself before making his Major League Baseball debut with the Milwaukee Braves at the start of the 1954 season. His first career home run came on April 23rd of that same year and for good measure, “Hammerin Hank” went ahead and hit 754 more just to be safe. With number 715 being the most significant of the 755 that Aaron hit in his career as that is the one that eclipsed the all-time record held by Babe Ruth, offered here is this copy of Sports Illustrated from April 15th, 1974, the first released after Aaron's historic blast. Pictured over the front cover triumphantly holding up his milestone ball in the bright lights of Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium with a sense of relief and joy on his face, the Sports Illustrated moniker is at the top of the publication, joined by the date and original purchase price of .60 cents. Simply featuring "715" on the cover, the copy presented here remains complete and in good condition with normal toning to the pages from age as well as handling wear being present. Originally a subscription copy that had an address label affixed to the bottom, it has been gently removed with minimal damage left behind while Aaron has signed across his chest with a bold blue marker ink signature that displays without issue. Accompanied by a JSA Auction LOA, don't miss out on this historically significant piece.
