Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

Playing in the defunct semi-professional Continental Hockey League between 1972 and 1986 for a total of twelve (12) seasons, the Chicago Cardinals would win the Walmar Cup as league champions in 1980-81 over the Peoria Blades. Offered here, we present this CnHL Chicago Cardinals jersey. Void of any labeling affixed to the inner collar, the outline of what was likely a Wilson tag can be seen over the area with the jersey measuring out to roughly a size "52". Decorated over the front with a Cardinals team crest that displays with beautiful chain-stitched details throughout, the distinguished alternate captain's "A" is seen affixed over the left breast. Styled over the sleeves and verso with the number "17" in dual layer white-over-yellow tackle twill numerals, it is worth pointing out that the numbers on the reverse were removed and repositioned lower on the back and the residue of their former position is still able to be seen. Exhibiting good game-wear throughout, stick marks are observed throughout the front and both sleeves with the latter of the two areas sporting a number of board burns as well. Displaying additional battle scars via no fewer than approximately twenty (20) team repairs of multiple styles throughout the piece, suggesting it was likely worn for multiple seasons, a few fabric runs and small unrepaired holes along with some spot stains and signs of age are found throughout as well. With good pilling present on the interior, research shows that the number "17" was donned by players such as Phil Rizzo in 1974-75 and George Hansen from 1978 to 1981 and potentially in 1977-78 as a member of the Hammond Cardinals, who wore similar jerseys to what Chicago did (Chicago was inactive for the 1976-77 and 1977-78 season).
