Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/1/2024
One of the all-time greatest players in the history of the National Hockey League, with his skill set and ferocious play seldomly ever being matched, the late great Bobby Hull earned endless hardware throughout his HOF career including the Lester Patrick, Hart Memorial and Lady Byng, along with a trio of Art Ross Trophies. Helping the Chicago Black Hawks to a Stanley Cup championship in 1961, offered here, we present this stick used by Hull during the era of the late-1960s. A Northland Custom Pro "Glass Fused" model with "B. Hull" and his famed number "9" stamped over the shaft, additional stamps from team equipment supplier, Gunzo's, appears over both sides of the upper shaft as well. Featuring Hull's patented "banana hook" curve to the blade that he starting using during the 1963-64 season, the stick, featuring a notched/shaved down handle due to an injury sustained by Hull during a car accident, retains its original tape job of vintage black over both the handle/knob and blade. Having signed the forehand side of the lower shaft/heel with a blue marker ink signature that displays well despite some evidence of age, the stick displays largely intact striping accents over the lower shaft and exhibits good game-use throughout via numerous dark marks and abrasions over the lower portion of the shaft plus heel area while other marks and abrasions are seen throughout as well. Also sporting some spots of red post paint transfer over the shaft, it is worth noting that there is a portion of the shaft on the backhand side that has been coloured over with red marker and there is also a crack in the toe of the blade.
