Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024

Spending a single season with CSKA Moscow before making his NHL debut with Los Angeles in 1992-93, Alexei Zhitnik played over 1,000 games, mostly with Buffalo, with additional seasons skating for Philly, Atlanta and the New York Islanders. Also suiting up overseas for his hometown team Sokil Kyiv between 1989 and 1991, offered here is this Sokil Kyiv jersey worn by Zhitnik circa 1990. A lightweight mesh construction offering that is void of any labeling affixed to the inner collar or interior, the jersey measures out to roughly a size "44" for its effort. Decorated throughout its entirety with heavily screened on team crests and sponsorship logos, the front of the jersey sports a Sokil Kyiv crest in both red and blue colours while the sleeves and verso have been styled with Zhitnik's number "13" in screened on "dual layer" blue numerals. Having had "Zhitnik" spelt out in single layer screened on red Cyrillic letters directly to the material of the jersey at the top of the reverse, it is worth noting that logos appearing over the lower front and end of both sleeves have either worn away from use/age or are heavily faded in most areas. Once a crisp white but now yellowed from use and age, the jersey has been signed by Zhitnik over the reverse between the two (2) numbers with a black marker ink signature that displays well despite fading from age. Sporting good game-use including pilling on the interior, the rest of the jersey shows wear via stick marks, board burns, coloured board paint transfers and sweat staining/discoloration around the collar. Of note, it must be stated that we were unable to locate any photos of Zhitnik wearing the style of jersey being offered here.
