The 2nd overall pick of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings after playing his junior hockey as a member of the Ontario Hockey League's Ottawa 67's, Doug Smith would go on to play 535 games in the National Hockey League, split between Los Angeles, Buffalo, Edmonton, Vancouver and Pittsburgh. Offered here, we present this Los Angeles Kings jersey worn by Smith during his first NHL season of 1981-82 when he posted 16 goals and 30 points in 80 games played. A Goodman & Sons mesh construction offering that has a knitted striping accent over the lower portion of the body, a Goodman & Sons label displaying a size "LARGE" designation is affixed to the inner collar. Decorated over the front with a layered Kings crown team crest that features heavily embroidered details throughout its entirety, the sleeves and verso have had Smith's number "23" sewn to them in dual layer tackle twill numerals while "Smith" is spelt out in single layer purple twill letters that have been affixed directly to the upper reverse. Sporting a snap style fight strap on the interior that has been sewn through the bottom of the "2" on the reverse, the jersey exhibits good game-wear in the form of board burns over both sleeves, red coloured board paint transfer marks on the left sleeve and a trio of team repairs on the right sleeve as well as light stick marks over the lower front, an additional red coloured paint transfer on the reverse hem and some pilling on the interior.
