Making his NHL debut for Edmonton during the 1987 Stanley Cup finals, Kelly Buchberger spent the majority of his career with the Oilers and captained the club for four seasons before moving on from Western Canada and enjoying stints in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Pittsburgh to close out his career. A veteran of 1182 career games played and a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Oilers, offered here, we present this Los Angeles Kings jersey donned by Buchberger while serving as one of the club's alternate captain's in 2000-01. Made by CCM, a "Made in Canada" brand label with an attached size "58" tag is affixed to the inner collar while a CCM logo patch adorns the reverse necklines, split in two between the C's. Of note, a swatch of extra purple fabric covers the CCM logo that has been embroidered into the reverse hem, indicating that the jersey is actually left over stock from the 1999-2000 season that was prepared for use the following year. Having had the NHL shield embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Kings team crest that features embroidered and textured details while matching alternate logo patches reside over both shoulders and "Los Angeles" has been added near the front hem in individually applied silver twill letters. Displaying the distinguished alternate captain's "A" over the left breast, the sleeves and verso of the garment have had Buchberger's number "9" sewn to them in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals while "Buchberger" is spelt out in single layer purple twill letters that have been affixed directly to the jersey across the top of the back. Exhibiting strong game-wear, light stick mars are present over the front, reverse and both sleeves while the sleeves are also dotted with numerous board burns and small unrepaired holes. WIth team repairs found underneath the front crest and over the left sleeve, more board burns are displayed over both shoulders with a small hole on the left side as a result of one. WIth some light fraying around the elbow reinforcements and a a handwritten notation by Kings equipment manager Peter Millar reading “00/01 S1” in silver marker ink found on the interior, the jersey has been photo-matched with Getty Image #650245 (November 11th, 2000 vs Detroit) to the bit of board burn visible on his left shoulder near the alternate logo crest and to the small hole and stick mark on the inside of the left cuff.
