Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A classic duo of card sets featuring the men who helped write the seven-season history of the World Hockey Association is up for grabs here, led chronologically by a 132-card set from 1975-76 which is led numerically by card #1 picturing "The Golden Jet", Bobby Hull, which is seen as being in the condition range of EX to EX-MT with light surface "snow" worth mentioning for accuracy. Presenting in the overall high-grade condition range of EX-MT to NM throughout, cards falling within this grade range include those of 34-Plante, 65-Hull AS, 66-Howe AS and 100-Howe while the checklist card, #131 in the set, presents closer to VG to VG-EX while being unmarked but affected by a light crease.
Jumping ahead a season to 1976-77, the complete 132-card effort is once again seen as falling into a uniform high-grade condition scope of EX-MT to NM throughout with some of the cards making up the set hampered by the commonly seen O-Pee-Chee centering issues of the era. For the key cards, those of 50-Howe (80-20 centering), 65-Hull AS, 72-Howe AS (some wax residue), 100-Hull, 111-Mahovlich and 117-Checklist (unmarked) are all in the aforementioned EX-MT to NM range. A cool pair of sets from the days of the "rival league", don't miss out on adding these to your all-important vintage collection!
