This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Three of the most pro prolific scorers that the National Hockey League has ever seen, and all three having their careers overlap, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Brett Hull combined to score a total of 2626 goals over the course of the regular season and playoffs, with all three (3) also hitting the famed "50 goals in 50 games" mark at some point in their careers. Offered here as part of this lot is this collection of O-Pee-Chee and Topps hockey cards of the three men that date from 1980-81 to 1988-89. Starting with cards of the one they call "The Great One", the group includes two (2) copies of the Oilers team checklist card picturing Gretzky over the front from 1980-81 with both brands represented, both unmarked (the Topps version is also unscratched), and both in the scope of EX-MT to NM condition. Also featuring a copy of Wayne's OPC printed 2nd year card from the same release that is in the same condition range, cards from 1981-82 total three (3) and feature once again this main series release offering, one from each brand with both in the range of EX-MT to NM, as well as a copy of his OPC "Super Action" card that is also around the vicinity of EX-MT shape. Rounded out by examples of Wayne's 1982-83 OPC "In Action" card (EX-MT to NM) and his 1985-86 Topps main checklist card (EX to EX-MT - light surface wear and two surface bubbles), for cards of "The Golden Brett", Brett Hull, included is a lone copy of his 1988-89 Topps rookie card that is found in the high-grade condition neighbourhood of EX-MT to NM. Moving on to cards of Mario Lemieux, "Mario the Magnificent" is pictured over the front of his 1986-87 OPC 2nd year card as well as his subsequent offerings from both 1987-88 and 1988-89, both of which are from the O-Pee-Chee releases, with all three (3) of the Lemieux cards listed in the condition scope of EX-MT to NM for their efforts. Additionally, all three (3) players are also found throughout an additional group of forty-two (42) other cards picturing members of the elite level trio, highlighted by 1980s award winners and cards of Gretzky from both brands and a couple of mid-1980s cards of Lemieux while other cards from various 1990s releases are seen throughout as well.
