Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
The greatest player to ever grace the ice of the National Hockey League and still holding a total of 58 records set by him during his career even 24 seasons after he retired from the game, offered here is this lot featuring a bevy of commemorative and limited-edition collector cards of Wayne Gretzky. Paced by a pair of Wayne's 1992-93 Upper Deck cards that picture him as a member of the Los Angeles Kings over the front and with his daughter on the reverse, one of the cards has been signed by the 1999 HHOF inductee with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue and has been hand serial numbered "116/500". With an Upper Deck hologram affixed to the bottom of the reverse on the signed card, also from Upper Deck comes a snazzy golden card that pays tribute to Wayne's 802nd goal that is housed in a close-to-one-inch-thick screwdown holder. Serial numbered "1584/3500" on the reverse, the cool to tilt back and forth offering to see Wayne's image, it is important to note that the card is NOT entirely made of 24K gold. For the latter part of the lot, two (2) blue booklets featuring Upper Deck authenticated 22K gold "Championship", "Rookie" and "Career" cards that have been done by The Danbury Mint are present, with the "Championship" cards housed in a pocket with each accompanied by a page of information pertaining to the Cup winning season they represent while the "Rookie" and "Career" offerings are done in the same style/format. Once again, it is worth noting that the cards are not made entirely of 22K gold. Lastly, is an Upper Deck Collectables folder done by the company upon Wayne's retirement from the National Hockey League that features 8" x 10" images from both his rookie season and final game that have been stamped with those designations and facsimile signatures in gold foil and which have both been hand serial-numbered "380/19900" in gold marker ink. With everything appearing in excellent condition, light handling wear is observed throughout that is worth mentioning for accuracy.
