Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Advertising a team pin-up in every pack on the box top, Topps’ unique 1980-81 hockey card issue is showcased here, although one cannot see the uniqueness of the cards since they’re still in their original packaging inside a display box sealed recently by the Baseball Card Exchange firm, an authority on unopened material. Freshly inspected and sealed in cellophane by BBCE, the company’s label has been affixed to the underside of the relic, stating “1980-81 Topps Hockey Unopened Wax Box”. Showing surface wear and creasing over the top lid, which also displays the original purchase price of .25 cents per pack, the fold up display lid has been perforated at the top but not completely. With the rest of the box also showing light surface wear all the way around, moderate edge and corner wear is also observed, fairly equal to all four (4) of the box's sides, no scotch tape is observed over the front or any of the sides and the bottom of the box, which sports light-to-moderate surface wear that is worth mentioning for accuracy, has had a Baseball Card Exchange information label and tamper proof hologram have been placed over top of the cellophane wrapper. Possibly containing the set's key rookie card of Ray Bourque in high-grade condition or a 2nd year card of young phenom Wayne Gretzky, the piece is a true relic from the beginning of "The Great One's" fabled career that you won't want to miss out on!
