This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/29/2023
Taking place as part of the National Hockey League's "Super Series '76" exhibitions, which saw club teams from Soviet Championship League touring North America to play against teams from the National Hockey League (NHL), the final contest on the tour between the Philadelphia Flyers and CSKA Moscow (Red Army Club) is to this day, some 47 years after is was played, regarded as one of the most important hockey games ever played with the Flyers beating the Soviet based club, both mentally and physically to the point where they left the ice in protest of the one sided physical play, by a score of 4 to 1. Offered here, is this collection of original documents from the historic contest. All the originals from the match that were then mailed afterwards to the National Hockey League offering in Montreal, the collection of four (4) documents includes the Game Sheet, Match Report, Score Sheet and Penalty Record which have all been signed by respective persons in charge of them. Having all been filled out in either blue or black ballpoint pen ink, all four (4) sheets remain fully legible though it is worth pointing out for accuracy that the Game/Statistics Sheet is the only one done in black coloured ink and shows more fading than any of the others. All different size pieces of paper that measure between 7 3/4" x 10 1/2" and 16" x 9 1/2", each remains in good condition with the Match Report, Score Sheet and Penalty Record all in the best shape of the bunch with light toning, the odd crease and the occasional fold line while the Game/Statistics Sheet shows toning, creasing, tattering to the edges via wrinkles/warping and small tears and fold lines. Interestingly enough, the "Report of Match" makes note of the game delay from when the Soviets left the ice in the "Remarks" section at the bottom of the page. Additionally, also included with the group is a collection of various documents and lists pertaining the Soviet National Team that date to the late-1970s that includes team rosters and stats list/sheets from various tournaments, telegrams between the Soviets and NHL, letters from Allan Eagleson at the NHLPA and letters from the Soviets pertaining to their arrival to the United States on February 4th, 1979 for the NHL Challenge Cup. All of these pieces of paperwork remain in good condition with some showing light handling and age wear while being a mix of originals and photocopies.
