A veteran of 302 National Hockey League games who played his junior hockey with the Winnipeg Rangers, Jim Johnson would suit up for New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles in the NHL and be one of the first players to jump ship to the World Hockey Association in 1972, playing with both the Minnesota Fighting Saints and Indianapolis Racers during his time in the league. Offered here, is this Fighting Saints jersey worn by Johnson during the 1974-75 season. Made by Rawlings, a tattered brand tag displaying a size "48" designation is affixed to the inner collar above a Steichens label that has also been affixed. Decorated over the front of the heavy dureen knit garment with a Fighting Saints team crest in layered tackle twill that features beautiful chain-stitched embroidered details throughout, the sleeves and verso of the garment have been accented with Johnson's number "20" in dual layer blue-over-yellow tackle twill numerals while "Johnson" is spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed twill nameplate at the top of the reverse. Of note, the nameplate has been ripped between the "N" and "S" and curls in towards the "N". Utilizing a loop style fight strap on the interior, the jersey displays with heavy use throughout. Exhibiting wear in the form of stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, coloured paint transfers, small unrepaired holes, and board burns are exhibited over the front and both sleeves as well while other battle scars are observed in the from of numerous fabric runs, fabric thinning on the reverse between the numbers and on the sleeves, a team repair over the lower front, fraying to the hem line, staining (heaviest at the let shoulder) and puckering plus wear to the front crest. With pilling present on the interior, don't miss out on this survivor that dates to the early days of rival league!
