This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
A trio of classic late-1980s O-Pee-Chee offerings, up for grabs here is this lot consisting of complete sets of O-Pee-Chee's 1986-87, 1987-88, 1988-89 hockey card releases. Starting with the ’86-87 assembly that finds itself in the high-grade condition range of EX-MT to NM, the set includes two (2) copies of Patrick Roy's key rookie card with one having been inspected and assessed a mark of EX-MT 6 for its effort by PSA while the other is found to be in POOR condition due to back damage. With the rest of the set featuring just a few lower grade cards scattered throughout its entirety, the other notable rookies of Wendel Clark and John Vanbiesbrouck are seen as being in the same EX-MT to NM condition scope with the Clark displaying with 80-20 centering that is worth mentioning for accuracy. Also including the star cards of 3-Gretzky and 122-Lemieux (off-center from top-to-bottom), both are also in the neighbourhood of EX-MT to NM as well while the set's checklist cards are found remaining in an unmarked state.
The 1987-88 set, once again comprised of 264-cards like the release before it, features an attractive design with a checklist that includes over 40 first year offerings such as those of 42-Robitaille, 123-Oates and 243-Damphousse, the Robitaille cardboard is seen as being in the realm of VG-EX to EX shape due to light corner wear and discolouration while Oates is around EX-MT with a small corner ding at the bottom left and Damphousse is in EX-MT to NM condition. For the star cards, 15-Lemieux and 163-Roy, his 2nd year offering, are both in the top-end range of EX-MT to NM while card #53 of Wayne Gretzky falls just short and presents around EX-MT with very light wear at the back left border. Additionally, the checklist cards are unmarked.
Finally, for the 1988-89 set, the hardest off of the three (3) assemblies included with the lot and seen as being in the overall grade scope of VG to VG-EX and VG-EX to EX, many of the cards have noticeable corner wear that brings down the overall grade. Including first year cards of 16-Nieuwendyk (VG to VG-EX - surface scratches and corner dings), 66-Hull (VG-EX to EX - corner wear), 122-Shanahan (PR to FR - multiple creases) and 194-Turgeon (VG to VG-EX - corner wear), the stars are headlined by 120-Gretzky (G to VG - dinged and worn corners) and 1-Lemieux (PR - damaged border plus creases). Once again, the checklist cards are all unmarked.
